The Sinowal Trojan Comes Alive

Today I want to write about Sinowal, especially dangerous and sophisticated type of malware. Because security analysts state that the Sinowal trojan is unique in its attack vector.
I also discovered that Sinowal is known as Torpig or Mebroot. In general it is a type of Trojan horse which purpose is to affect computers using Microsoft Windows as their operating system. The Sinowal Trojan turns off anti-virus applications, enables others to access the computer, modifies data on the computer, steals confidential information like user passwords and other sensitive data and installs more malware on the victim's computer.
This Trojan appeared three years ago and still continuous to expand due to periodical creation of new variants.

Don’ t be Caught by a Trojan!

I can find various forms of malware spreading widely over the internet. And one of them I have recently encountered is under the name of Trj/Banker.LNO. Actually, it is a cunning trojan which could be the cause of attacks and intrusions. Further, referring to the Annual report PandaLabs 2008 I discover that Trojans are likely to be the most important type of malware. Banker.LNO allows hackers to get into and perform dangerous actions in affected computers, for instance capturing screenshots, stealing personal data and others. This trojan is transmitted by floppy disks, CD-ROMs, email messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks and others. To prevent this harmful phenomenon I should install a good antivirus in my computer, then keep that antivirus updated and eventually, I have to keep my constant antivirus protection enabled at all times.

Rootkit.TDss.Gen Targets on my Computer

Malware such as rootkits and other types of threats are invading my computer. With this in mind it doesn’t work properly and I am very furious about all this matter. Therefore, the most important task now for me is to put an end to the rootkit expansion.
Unfortunately, I found that rootkits are complicated and ever changing. One of them could be Rootkit.TDss.Gen. It is a rootkit-protected, malicious backdoor program that opens compromised PCs to further infestation by malicious programs.
Rootkit.TDss.Gen is installed with rootkit-specific techniques designed to hide the software presence in the system.
So if I want to protect my PC from this rootkit I have two ways: I can download automatic scanner for Rootkit.TDss.Gen or I can remove this rootkit manually, but this is only for advanced users. Finally, I know one thing that I should keep antivirus/anti-spyware software up to date to avoid malware in the future.

New Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition 8.0! Say No to Adware and Spyware

Lavasoft gives me the opportunity to experience more improved Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition . Let’s say if I want to find and remove adware and spyware, this new version of Ad-Aware does it excellently. Though it is not perfect, this edition loads faster during my boot cycle. Altogether, I discovered that scans take less time than the previous edition and the Quick Scan is completed in less than 10 minutes. Having rootkit detection, Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition doesn’t include heuristics and real-time registry protection. Another improvement I happened to find is the proprietary real-time defender Ad-Watch Live reconfigured to run more smoothly in the background. Moreover, interface refinements make the usage of Ad-Aware very simple. This edition comes with an action button placement at the bottom of the pane which could be odd to those users who are familiar with former versions, but the forced continuity between windows is an advantage. All in all, Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition offers comprehensive malware protection without loading down your system’s resources.
*Uses 74% less memory than Ad-Aware 2008.
*Only uses 18% of the CPU during scans – nearly 60% less resources than the previous version altogether, considerably less than each competitor product tested, including AVG, Kaspersky, Norton, and PC Tools.
*Scans 36 MB per second – faster than each competitor product tested, and over 4 times faster than AVG’s.

Reviewing Panda Internet Security 2009

Yesterday I read about Panda Internet Security 2009. And I discovered that being an average security suite it encompasses a lot of similar features many other suites offer. Still, the suite lacks intuitive menus.
Providing a broad feature set and an simple-to-use interface Panda Internet Security comes with its below-average malware detection. Due to this reason the suite faces a problem when dealing with some extremely dangerous malware, regardless its fresh Internet-based scanning feature.
The good news is that Panda Internet Security 2009 includes the Key Features and benefits that I stated below.
The key benefits the suite offers are the following:
*Anti-Malware Protection
*Identity Theft Protection
*Safe Internet Browsing
*Backup and Restore
Panda Internet security boasts the features like:
*Anti-Virus
*Anti-Spyware
*Anti-Phishing
*Anti-Rootkit
*Firewall
*Identity Protect
*Anti-Spam
*Parental Control
*Backup
*Technical support service and automatic upgrades
Panda Internet Security is run on Windows® Vista™ (32 and 64-bit) / Windows® XP (32 and 64-bit).

Free Security Programs for your PC

It is good that nowadays I am able to protect my PC with free software. It means that I don’t have to spend any money. But I I know that these free security programs aren't so simple to use. Also the programs don't include features such as antispam and child protection. Anyway, leaving these minuses aside the fact is that they're free. Moreover, having less overhead than the big suites they won't slow down my PC. So I need a good firewall and real-time antivirus protection like Comodo or Avast.

Speed up PC boot Times Using Self-Encrypting Drives

Drive traders like Seagate (STX), Hitachi (HIT) and Fujitsu (FJTSY.PK) presented self-encrypting drives that are likely to speed up PC boot times. So all I have to do is just to type in a password during the BIOS boot-up phase, and the password is authenticated by the drive. After that the drive decrypts disk reads and encrypts disk writes at native speed, all internal to the drive. The drive is being treated as a normal unencrypted drive to Windows, Linux or other software referring to the fact that all such software is booted after unlocking the drive.

The Latest Demon: The Seneka Rootkit!

My computer crashed two days ago and I detected a new risk hiding in my machine. It is the Seneka rootkit. I haven’t heard about it earlier! What’s that!?! Searching for the answer on the Internet I happened to find a good article on the Seneka rootkit in the Registrycleanerz website. According to this source this new computer threat is defined as malware including a program which controls a computer system, without authorization by the system's owners and legitimate managers. I experienced on my own that to detect this new danger is not so easy. So I relied on the computer users’ experience and tried the McAFee rootkit detective. It was a success!!!

File Sharing (P2P) Causes Risks to your PC

Great stuff is peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing which gives me the opportunity to share public-domain music, audio, images, documents, and software programs over the Internet. Altogether, this file sharing enables me to keep files on my machine and go online to search for and share files with others using the same software. I am sure that all of you recognize the programs such as BitTorrent, Morpheus, Kazaa, LimeWire, and iMesh and others. Apart from these good things, there are secret dangers related to P2P. I have always in mind that shared files may include security risks such as viruses, spyware, and other unwanted software. Further, while sharing files I realize and differentiate between copyrighted and public domain material. As many peer-to-peer file sharing programs do not provide good security or access control when I am not guaranteed of the security of a given file, I simply don’t share or download it.

Improving System Boot Time with HyperSpace

I think all of you have noticed that the computing experience became slow and old fashioned. As today PCs take too long to boot. Due to this fact Phoenix Technologies has presented HyperSpace. This program is based on a compressed Linux OS that boots up while Windows is starting in the background. It connects automatically to any available network and fires up a Firefox-based Web browser to get users promptly on the Web. Altogether, using HyperSpace I don’t have to wait for Windows to start up and shut down. Moreover, Phoenix revealed the future plan to launch new applications for HyperSpace in the second quarter that will be involved in the subscription price, like programs for playing DVDs and MP3 music files. Next to that, the company wants to make a deal with PC vendors to get the software preinstalled on laptops. However, its aim remains the same that is to complement Windows, not replace it. Also, I discovered that HyperSpace encompasses aggressive power management features, made possible by Phoenix's access to the BIOS software. Therefore, it differs from the rest similar products.

Internet Explorer or Firefox ?

Yesterday I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox because I found out that a vulnerability in IE left computers exposed to malicious attack. As browsers are getting more difficult testing for all variations becomes very complex. I agree that PC security should focus on prevention. So I have to use my browser to browse, also I have to install Internet security software for PC protection.

It is quick to install with interface better than ever. This software no longer makes my PC unusable when working and scanner operates fantastically. But updates are quite big. This program is not the best solution, but it will be useful even for my old PC.
